     Before a student becomes a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon he must successfully complete a period of pledgeship. Pledgeship serves many purposes that are essential for the perpetuation of our great fraternity. Pledgeship is a trial period in which the new member learns our rich history, values, creed, government, and laws. This learning process is achieved with the facilitation of the New Member Educator.

     Pledgeship is a process in which the new member and the fraternity familiarize themselves with one another, so that the great friendships that make our brotherhood great continue to thrive and grow. To achieve this brotherhood we use a variety of activities including our Big Brother Program.

     Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s pledgeship contains absolutely no hazing. Hazing by no means whatsoever facilitates the friendships that our essential to a great brotherhood.

     In today’s world a balanced personality is of extreme value and importance. Through pledging, young men learn proper social habits, respect for the individual, and how to exemplify The True Gentleman. Through this trial period and learning process new members acquire the much-needed well roundedness and balance in personality essential to success.
